It's been a few days since Patrick Day passed away, so I thought I'd ask what you think would be the best way to resolve this issue in Boxing? Patrick is the 4th death this year in Boxing, as a result of injuries sustained in a fight. The 4 deaths this year were Patrick Day (Oct 12), Boris Stanchov (Sep 21), Hugo Alfredo Santillan (Jul 25) and Maxim Dadashev (Jul 19).

The way I see it, there needs to be something done to this sport, in order to make it safer. But I understand the sport will practically lose it's fan base if you take the brutality out of it.

There's nothing to change, the name of the game is to hurt your opponent, or knock them out to win, both fighters know the risks involved, it's just the nature of the beast unfortunately.

I read on average 13 boxers die in the ring every year. I would like to see a tougher stance of concussions like the concussion protocol they have in the NFL. Trainers and Promoters and fighters themselves have to be truthful about what happens in the gym. To many fighters r being hurt or knocked out in the gym and it's not reported, if u r knocked out in the gym you should be given a 28 day rest from boxing just like u would if u were knocked out in a fight. They should introduce punishments for any gym not obeying the rules. Could also look at how fighters cut weight. a lot of them seriously damage their health by cutting so much weight, possibly moving the weigh in closer to the fight might help this. In reality though boxing is the hurt business and without making them box using pillows as gloves it's never going to be 100% safe.

Boxing is just one of them sports that can never be truly safe. It's like the north west 200 motorbike race or the one they have in the isle of Man. The Dunlop family have had about 3 or 4 brothers die in them races but still members of their family race, because they love it. Same with boxing.
