Big blow for Dazn that Usyk V Joshua II is on Sky sports. Puts a spanner in the works for Dazns box office model.

Only for UK viewers. Sky Sports won the bid to show the fight in the UK, DAZN will be showing coverage to the rest of the World.

I'd imagine Sky Sports paid a healthy sum to get the PPV rights as a one-off, which will add to the revenue/purse for the fight/fighters.

28mil sky paid for the UK tv rights. Who gets what globally hasn't been decided yet. The UK is the main market for this fight, u think it going to do good numbers in America at midday? There is no uptake for the fighter's here. Matchroom sold the rights to the Saudis who sold them to Sky. Its up to Sky to get their money back from ppv sales.

It's pretty common knowledge that DAZN have been trying to break into the UK market and wanted to use this fight to boost subscribers. They made this big announcement that Aj was exclusive to DAZN, give him shares in the company, a massive bonus and 10 fight contract, all of that was to boost their ppv model. He's officially the face of DAZN boxing who biggest fight of his career isn't on Dazn. How many Aj fans have signed up to DAZN only to realise now their favourite fighter isn't even on Dazn.
They failed to get the Champions league rights, premier league rights, buy Bt sports this is another kick in the teeth for their expansion.

Aj wins they r quids in, he loses and they r basing their ppv business on a fighter who has just lost back to back, OK they have the Canelo but he's signed on a fight by fight basis or 2 fight deal. Who's fights are also shown for free in Mexico. Look at the state they got into with canelo and the contract they agreed with Goldenboy.

Dazn can't keep throwing endless barrels of money into matchrooms bank account for little return. They have cut the funding recently and are taking a massive risk not securing the rights for this fight.

Sorry, I was under the impression that the AJ-Usyk fight will be shown on Sky Sports PPV and to DAZN subscribers as well, is this not the case? : /

No need to say sorry to me mate, if anything I should apologise to u. After reading my post back I realise I came across as a bit rude, which certainly wasn't my intention bud.

It is confusing this Aj Dazn agreement, because they announced the other weekb that Aj was exclusive to Dazn but they didn't mention that that arrangement didn't include the Usyk rematch. To make the fight happen matchroom sold all the tv rights to the Saudis. Sky bought the UK rights and as far as I'm aware the international rights are still to be decided. But like I said b4 the market for this fight is the UK. Sky done 700 thousand buys for the first fight and r confident of going close to a million buys this time. Will not be shown on Dazn in the UK.

Now Dazn still might get the international rights but it does nothing for their ppv model as again the main market is the UK. And as Eddie hearn has said Aj will never fight on Dazn normal subscription model, he will always be ppv. Which was their plan to launch in the UK. Dazn will always do well internationally as a company because they have the football rights in a lot of countries but atm all they offer to UK subscribers is matchroom boxing.

I think Dazn could suffer the same way sky suffered imo with being tied down to one promoter. They need a marquee name signed down long term. No guarantee with Canelo as he doesn't sign long term. They seem to be putting all their eggs in the Joshua basket. Which I can't see working either, OK their subscription numbers will increase especially if he wins, but matchroom aren't blessed with lot of quality heavyweights to call on. Can't see Frank letting Joyce, Dubios even fury go on Dazn and even if it's a cross platform production with bt.

All could change though if the rumours r correct and they manage to make and get Eubank Jr v Conor Benn. Then they would certainly gatecrash the Uk ppv scene.

Bloody hell, lol, it's quite convoluted then.

I, like many boxing fans, have a dislike for Eddie Hearn but I'm still hoping he takes off in the US, with or without DAZN, and makes a success of it.

And you never came across as rude, mate. You have to do a lot better than that to offend me :)

Me too buddy. I just want to see the best fights. The politics in boxing annoys me mate.
