Ed001, if your about mate. R u working on any boxing articles atm? Loved the one afew weeks back about Gatti.

{Ed001's Note - still writing up Sugar Ray Leonard. There is a lot on him.}

Have you checked out the new showtime documentary called 'the kings'? It's about the 4 of them Hargler, Hearns, Duran and Leonard. Some new stuff in it although no new Leonard interviews as he is currently making his own movie or documentary.

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, that was what took so long as people kept releasing new interviews with him as I was doing it and I had to keep stopping to read through them all.}

Looking forward to it. Tbh I'm not a big fan of Leonard but he was an amazing boxer and has had some life. He was also in the worst film I've ever seen, a 1996 movie called riot. It was like a mixture of Name of the Father and the karate Kid, terrible. Best of luck with the article anyway mate. Looking forward to it.

{Ed001's Note - to be honest, of the 4 he was the one I knew least about. I just remember him being a show-off and that was never my thing. I just wanted fighters to fight, rather than showboat. Though he is a bit like Saenchai in Muay Thai, yes he shows off but boy can he fight as well and sometimes it is easy to forget how much skill it takes to pull off the showboating and win fights. Plenty of people try and showboat and just end up getting their heads taken off.}

No doubt, he was no fancy Dan edd mate he was as hard as nails. I just didn't take to his personality. Tbh I recently heard a story about Duran that near turned my stomach. Out of the 4 Hagler was my favourite.

{Ed001's Note - I liked Hagler most until I did the Tommy Hearns article and he just came across as such a genuinely nice guy he became my favourite.}

Love The motor City Cobra, although like many others he carried on way to long. Sounds silly but my favourite fighter of all time is Floyd Mayweather not because I think he was the best but he got me really reading about the sport and also hate him or love him u know what he is and what he stands for. I can't follow fighters or people that try to hide behind a squeaky clean image but in reality they r just as bad, like Del le hoya, Leonard, Pacquiao and Joshua.

{Ed001's Note - I can understand that, it is difficult to like the fakes, but I disagree that Mayweather is any better. I can't take to him at all. Like I said I like fighters to fight, so he is not my thing at all.}

Fair enough mate. I like watching a bit of skill in my boxing. See too many fighters today struggling from taking too much punishment during their careers. Floyd was a lot more aggressive early in his career but when u have the skill he has why stand and fight when u don't have to. Imo if others could fight like Floyd then they would but that's the issue not many can mate.

{Ed001's Note - I would still rather watch a Nigel Benn fight any day. In fact I would rather watch paint dry than watch Mayweather personally. He may have skill, but the idea is still to hit the other guy, not just avoid getting hit, and he doesn't do enough for my liking. If I want to watch dancing, I would watch a dance movie, not a boxing match. I respect his ability, but I will still turn over rather than watch him.}

That's what u like mate that's up to u. Floyd won 49 fights don't think u win any fights if u don't throw punches mate. People seem to think that every fight Ali, Leonard, Jones etc had was barnburner after barnburner. I too used to love watching a juiced up Benn mate. He was exciting. Boxing is a game of skill maybe ufc is the place to go for a brawl. Although I don't find the idea of watching two men roll around the ground appealing tbh.

{Ed001's Note - what is your problem? Why have you suddenly got all narky and defensive and started insulting other sports? I am allowed to find Mayweather fights tedious, it isn't an insult to you or him. Though I would never personally point to a record of wins that aren't by KO, as judging in boxing is far too dubious (to be polite) to place any store in results gained by decision.}

Fair enough ed mate. I apologise. Didn't mean any offence.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, it is easy to get carried away when typing.}

I wasn't trying to insult other sports I was was trying to say that maybe that is why the UFC has become more popular, a lot of fans like yourself like the brawling all action style. I should have worded it better. Sorry for that mate.

{Ed001's Note - it's fine, but I don't prefer UFC to boxing, I find both have the same issues for me. I prefer muay thai and things like One, where they brawl but the skill level is still high. They actually fight to win, rather than fight not to lose, which is what Mayweather does. He is, to me, the boxing equivalent of Jose Mourinho. You can't argue with his record, but I don't want to watch the product he produces, even if I do respect his achievements.}

Think a lot of your assessment of Mayweather may be based off the Pacquiao fight but your entitled to your opinion mate. We both like different styles of fighting, can see how judges score fights differently. I would presume we would probably score a fight differently if we watched it, just because we like different styles.

{Ed001's Note - I can see how judges score fights differently but there is a lot of outright cheating that goes on, remember when Lennox lost a clear win because the judge claimed she couldn't see his work as he was blocking her view?}

Was that the Holyfield fight?

{Ed001's Note - I think it was yes.}
